A thoroughly British photo shoot

As it’s the Diamond Jubilee celebrations this weekend, I thought there was no better time to share this shoot with you. This was one of the shoots from the Jinky Art workshop I went on a few weeks ago. Barb Uil is known for her concept shoots where she uses props (and often animals!) to bring a shoot to life and really accentuate the child’s personalities. She wanted this shoot to celebrate everything that is British, hence the lovely old mini, the English country estate and the Union Jack.

This was the first time I had done a shoot in a group environment like this and to be honest, I found it a real challenge having 17 photographers all trying to shoot the same thing! So I tended to hang at the back and didn’t really take many shots at all. It made me realise that one of the main things I love about photographing children is the interaction I have with them, and bringing out their true personalities. So it did feel strange photographing children when someone else was interacting with them, but a good learning experience nonetheless. The 2 brothers were absolute stars and coped so well with having an army of photographers snapping away at them!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend celebrating the Diamond Jubilee, we have a couple of parties lined up so I’m really looking forward to it. And my baby boy is turning 2 on Monday (how can he be 2 already!!) so watch out for a very special blog post on Monday morning. I shared one of the images from his birthday shoot on my Facebook page and had a lovely response from everyone….I can’t wait to show you the rest!
