Playing with my new camera

This post will probably only be of interest if you are into photography as it’s about nerdy things that only a photo geek like me will appreciate! So if you have arrived at my blog to look at some pretty pictures, don’t worry, this post will be followed very shortly with a lovely family shoot!

So, after months of deliberation, I finally invested in Canon’s latest release, a 5d mark iii which arrived on Friday. (For those that are interested, I was shooting previously with a 5d mark ii and a 5d mark i, so this is to replace the mark i.)

We had a busy weekend as I was running a Photography for Parents workshop on Saturday, and what with taking the boys to Christmas fairs and birthday parties, I didn’t have much time to play with my new toy. But the small amount of time that we did have at home, I was boring my family to pieces taking photos of them and then excitedly geeking out over ISO capabilities and AF point expansion. (I did warn you that if you’re not into photography this will sound pretty dull!)

From what I’ve seen so far, I’m delighted with my new camera. I’m certainly not going to get into an in-depth review here (I’m no techie), but if you are also a photo geek (and I know lots of photographers read my blog), then you may be interested to hear the settings that these photos below were shot at.

ISO 2500 (I don’t normally risk going above ISO 800 on my mark ii), F2.5, 1/200
Sorry if I have now made any photographers lust over the mark iii, but I just wanted to share my (geeky) excitement with you over it’s low light capabilities! 🙂

Wow, that is brilliant – can I be equally geeky & ask what lens you used 🙂 x

Of course, I should have included that. I was using my Canon 50mm 1.4. x
