With the year coming to a close, I like to spend a bit of time reflecting on the past 12 months….and all in all 2014 has been very kind to me!
When I look back at some of those early years and think about the fact that I was also a full-time mum to a baby and toddler, I feel totally exhausted, I’m not sure where I got the energy from! I did under-estimate just how challenging it would be to start my own business as well as be a full-time mummy to two little ones. It was exhausting, but so worth it! And with my youngest starting reception in September, I have finally started to get the work/life balance that I’ve been dreaming of for years!
2014 has been an exciting year for us as a family as we moved from Surbiton to the other end of Surrey, to the Hindhead/Haslemere area. At times during the buying/moving process I wanted to pull my hair out (I’m sure some of you can empathise!) but I’m so happy that we are spending Christmas in our new home. We’re enjoying exploring our new area and I can’t wait to do lots of shoots in 2015 in all of the stunning new locations we’re discovering.
I’m so grateful to all of the people who chose me to photograph them and their families this year. I love freezing a moment in time for these families and knowing that my photos will be treasured and enjoyed for many years to come. I’ve been in business for nearly 7 years and I still LOVE what I do. Nothing beats that feeling at the end of a shoot when I walk away happy in the knowledge that I’ve got the best out of my little subjects (and the big ones!) and captured some really special moments.
It would have been too tough to just choose my favourite images from this year, so instead I picked out one from each of my sessions that represents joy to me. I do love a soulful black & white photo, but I’ve realised my real pleasure comes from photographing the joy and happiness of childhood and family life.
So here are some of the happy faces I had the pleasure of photographing in 2014 (including a few of my own boys..I couldn’t resist sneaking them in!)
To all of the lovely families that I’ve had the pleasure of photographing this year…thank you, it’s been an absolute honour! I’ve loved photographing you all and I’m very lucky that so many of you come back to me time and time again.
And thank you to all of you lovely people who read my blog. It’s so encouraging that so many of you come back week after week to see what I’ve been up to, I really do appreciate your support.
And thank you to my wonderful family and friends for being so…well…wonderful!
I’m going to now unplug my computer for a couple of weeks to spend some quality time with my family, but I’ll be back on here with a bang in the new year! We’re getting a puppy on 2nd January (So much for that newly-found work/life balance I mentioned!) and I’m sure I will be posting some cute photos of her on social media, so please like my Facebook page or follow me on Instagram.
You can take a peek at what Christmas looked like in our house over on my workshop blog.
I hope you have a very happy and healthy 2015. I have a feeling it’s going to be a great year!
